Overview of HSSE management in Europe: the essentials
In the framework of the EU FP7 project iNTeg-Risk "Early Recognition, Monitoring and Integrated Management of Emerging, New Technology related Risks", Steinbeis University (STI Advanced Risk Technologies) and other project partners have set up a modern and modular European Master and Certification Program with the emphasis on management and analysis of emerging risks related to new technologies. Herewith, we announce the forthcoming course
IIIA-R06 HSSE
Health, Safety, Security and Environment
January 14 - 17, 2013 Paris, France
Lecturer: Olivier Salvi
The course is open for students of the universities and employees of the companies participating in the project, as well as for the external participants.
The course gives an overview of EU regulation in the field of HSSE (Health, Safety, Security and Environment), explains the objectives and requirements, as well as the state-of-the art in the implementation including constraints and advantages. Special focus is on the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) and Industrial Emission Directive (IED) and on the prevention of major accidents (Seveso).
At the end of the course a participant will
- understand what is IPPC and IED and be familiar with the European Union regulatory framework for environmental management
- know in details the concept and implementation of the Seveso Directive (Seveso II and III); the safety report, the major accident prevention policy (MAPP), the Safety Management System (SMS), Land-Use Planning (LUP) and Emergency Plans
- understand the importance of human and security aspects when dealing with HSSE issues in industry
- know what are Safety (Key) Performance Indicators (SPIs or KPIs) and their use and interpretation.
This course is dedicated to the professionals working in the field of HSSE. Engineers, managers, inspectors, legislators will profit from this course both by extending the knowledge about the concepts built into the EU legislation and by increasing their own understanding of problems in application.
